It’s new, it’s clean, and decked out, but not even a car thief wants it. That’s the case if you the proud owner of one of the least stolen cars in America. Now bear in mind, this only applies to cars that are of recent model years, not the rusty old ‘66 truck that won’t even go ‘55 miles per hour.
A car is stolen every 26 seconds in America. Nearly half of these are never recovered, having been scrapped for parts, or smuggled to another country. But if you have one of the cars on this list, you don’t have to worry about that do you?
The chances of your car being stolen are approximately 190 to 1. Of course, this number fluctuates based on where you live and what sort of car you drive. The chances that someone wants your rusted El Camino are pretty slim, but that shiny new Escalade in the driveway is awfully tempting to a would-be car thief. According to the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), the most stolen vehicles in 2005 was the Cadillac Escalade.
Here is the list of the top five least stolen vehicles in 2005, according to the HLDI. The HLDI numbers are based only on insured vehicles. They count the number of total insured vehicles of a certain make/model and compare that number to the number of stolen vehicles of that make/model that filed claims. These include model years of 2003-2005:
1. Ford Taurus
2. Pontiac Vibe 4WD
3. Buick LeSabre
4. Buick Park Avenue
5. Toyota Sienna 4WD
Now, these aren’t bad cars at all. The Ford Taurus is annually one of the best sellers, and it is considered a safe, economical vehicle for families. The Park Avenue is luxurious, and the Sienna is a tough four-wheel drive vehicle. They just don’t have a high market value, so thieves aren’t interested.
