Towing Assistance Options

I have AIG auto insurance, but I don’t have emergency roadside assistance coverage. I have AAA, which will tow me up to 100 miles to the destination of my choice, but my membership is about to expire. I don’t want to renew if I can include comparable coverage in my insurance policy. Can I get towing assistance through my car insurance policy?

Answer

Most insurers offer some form of roadside assistance or towing coverage. This coverage is usually offered as an additional or optional coverage to policyholders. Generally, the slightly higher premiums you will pay for this coverage are significantly cheaper than what you would pay for an auto club membership. To determine how comparable AAA and roadside assistance car insurance coverage are, you would have to talk to your agent about the specifics of the coverage. Different insurers will have different specifications on how far they will tow your vehicle and to what locations.
