I am considering getting on someone else’s auto insurance policy, but I have to file an SR-22. Is this a good idea or should I just get my own policy?
An SR-22 is a document proving financial responsibility that is required by the court or state law for people who have been convicted of certain traffic violations. If you were in an accident or convicted of a traffic offense and were unable to show financial responsibility, some states require you to file this document. The SR-22 must be filed by your insurance company, and it basically proves that you have valid liability coverage. If you have to file an SR-22, it would probably not be a good idea to get on someone else’s policy because his/her rates would increase dramatically. You’re better off shopping around for low rates on your own car insurance coverage.
