Alaska Car Insurance - Low Rates on AK Auto Insurance

Alaska is the United States' largest state in the aspect of ground area. It is the only state that is separated from the United States by another country. At one time thousands of years ago, Alaska was connected to Russia through a small land channel in the Bering Sea. In 1867, Alaska was bought from the Russian Empire for $7.2 million dollars. In 1912, it became a territory officially. Later in 1959, just before Hawaii became a state, Alaska was officially named the 49th state in the USA. The name "Alaska" comes from the Aleut word "alaxsxaq," which means "the main land." Most of Alaska's residents live in Anchorage. The state's population is 698,473 today. This state is also known as the coldest state because of its position being so close to the North Pole. Most of the months are cold and temperatures in the height of winter can reach well below -25.

It is said that throwing a cup of boiling water into the air will result in it freezing before it hits the ground on many typical Alaskan winter days. Because Alaska is so cold and sees such extreme snow for most of the year, having a good insurance provider is important. Cars often break down because the temperatures become so cold. There are also hundreds of car accidents each month due to snow. Many people find themselves caught in a wild snowstorm at least once and wind up driving off the road into a ditch. When a snowstorm is in full power, a towing company will often charge even more than usual to come to the rescue. Avoid these hassles by using our search guide. We make finding an Alaska auto insurance quote quick, easy and free.

One common type of auto accident that occurs in Alaska is rear-ending. In many cases, the driver at fault slid on packed snow or ice and did not intend to hit the other person's vehicle. Not carrying insurance in such a situation could wind up costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical and vehicle expenses paid to the injured party. Alaska Auto Insurance Requirements

Like most states in the US Alaska requires that its motorists carry liability insurance. Liability means that if a driver causes an accident, regardless of the circumstances (poor weather, running a stop light, driving under the influence) their insurance company will pay for medical expenses and property repair for the drivers whose vehicle was struck.

Minimum liability coverage varies from state to state; in AK drivers are required to have a 50/100/25 liability policy, meaning that if they are in an accident in which only one other person was involved their insurance will pay for fifty thousand dollars of that person's medical expenses, if there are multiple persons involved (such as a car containing a driver and two passengers) insurance will pay for one hundred thousand dollars of their combined expenses.

If the accident caused property damage (such as by striking a stop sign or damaging a building) twenty five thousand dollars will be allotted to make necessary repairs (this amount also includes damages inflicted upon the vehicle of the other driver). These levels are higher than those found in many other states; however, motorists are still encouraged to carry more than the minimum amount of coverage. For more details on the specific state requirements motorists are encouraged to visit the Alaska Division of Insurance.
